Instructions for online permitting applications


  1. Select type of permit and fill out all boxes of application (more than 1 permit may be selected if multiple trades apply to the proposed work).
  2. Permit fee will generate after estimated cost is inputted (Permit fees are based on the estimated value of the work being done. This includes labor and materials. If you are not paying for labor, a fair market value must still be used.)
  3. Contractors, email copy of valid contractor's license & certificate of liability insurance with workers comp to Ashley.Berent@MiddletownCT.Gov. If you do not carry workers comp, a waiver can be found on the main Building Department page under the "Forms" section.
  4. Homeowners, please note the information about 7A / 7B Forms on the main page and submit whichever applies to your application. They can be found under the "Forms" section.
  5. Plans, specs or other paperwork may be required based on proposed job. Please contact the Department if you have questions regarding what other information we may need to approve your permit.
  6. After submitting your application a receipt page with generate, please print that and mail it in or drop it off with your check for your permit fee. Applications will NOT be reviewed until we receive ALL paperwork and payment for your permit fee. (CHECKS ONLY)

I understand that when a permit is issued, it is to begin the approved work and grants no right to violate any code, ordinance or statute.
